ABSTRACT<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Back\u00adground:<\/strong> The use of the Inter\u00adnet as a source of health infor\u00adma\u00adtion is gro\u00adwing among people who expe\u00adri\u00adence men\u00adtal health dif\u00adfi\u00adcul\u00adties. The increase in Inter\u00adnet use has led to ques\u00adti\u00adons about online information-seeking beha\u00advi\u00adors, for example, how psy\u00adcho\u00adthe\u00adra\u00adpists and pati\u00adents use the Inter\u00adnet to ascer\u00adtain infor\u00adma\u00adtion about each other. The notion of psy\u00adcho\u00adthe\u00adra\u00adpists see\u00adking infor\u00adma\u00adtion about their pati\u00adents online (patient-targeted goog\u00adling, PTG<\/span>) has been iden\u00adti\u00adfied and explo\u00adred. Howe\u00adver, the idea of pati\u00adents sear\u00adching for infor\u00adma\u00adtion online about their psy\u00adcho\u00adthe\u00adra\u00adpists (therapist-targeted goog\u00adling, TTG<\/span>) and the asso\u00adcia\u00adted moti\u00adves and effects on the the\u00adra\u00adpeutic rela\u00adti\u00adons\u00adhip remain unclear.<\/p>\n Objec\u00adtive:<\/strong> This study inves\u00adti\u00adga\u00adted for\u00admer and cur\u00adrent German-speaking psy\u00adcho\u00adthe\u00adrapy pati\u00adents\u2019 beha\u00advior and atti\u00adtu\u00addes rela\u00adting to TTG<\/span>. In addi\u00adtion, pati\u00adents\u2019 methods of infor\u00adma\u00adtion gathe\u00adring, moti\u00adves, and suc\u00adcess in sear\u00adching for infor\u00adma\u00adtion were exami\u00adned. Fur\u00adther\u00admore, pati\u00adents\u2019 expe\u00adri\u00aden\u00adces and per\u00adcep\u00adti\u00adons of PTG<\/span> were explo\u00adred.<\/p>\n Methods:<\/strong> Over\u00adall, 238 for\u00admer and cur\u00adrent psy\u00adcho\u00adthe\u00adrapy pati\u00adents respon\u00added to a new ques\u00adti\u00adon\u00adnaire spe\u00adci\u00adfi\u00adcally desi\u00adgned to assess the fre\u00adquency, moti\u00adves, use, and out\u00adco\u00admes of TTG<\/span> as well as expe\u00adri\u00aden\u00adces and per\u00adcep\u00adti\u00adons of PTG<\/span>. The study sam\u00adple was a non\u00adre\u00adpre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtive con\u00adve\u00adni\u00adence sam\u00adple recrui\u00adted online via several German-speaking the\u00adrapy plat\u00adforms and self-help forums.<\/p>\n Results:<\/strong> Of the 238 for\u00admer and cur\u00adrent pati\u00adents who respon\u00added, 106 (44.5%) had obtai\u00adned infor\u00adma\u00adtion about their the\u00adra\u00adpists; most of them (n=85, 80.2%) had used the Inter\u00adnet for this. Besi\u00addes curio\u00adsity, moti\u00adves behind infor\u00adma\u00adtion sear\u00adches inclu\u00added the desire to get to know the the\u00adra\u00adpist bet\u00adter by attemp\u00adt\u00ading to search for both pro\u00adfes\u00adsio\u00adnal and pri\u00advate infor\u00adma\u00adtion.
