ABSTRACT<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Back\u00adground:<\/strong> Par\u00adti\u00adcu\u00adlarly during the early and middle sta\u00adges of the COVID-19<\/span> pan\u00adde\u00admic, a population\u2019s com\u00adp\u00adli\u00adance with pre\u00adcau\u00adtio\u00adnary mea\u00adsu\u00adres (e.g., hygiene rules, smart working, tra\u00advel restric\u00adtions, and qua\u00adran\u00adtine) is para\u00admount in preven\u00adting the virus from sprea\u00adding.<\/p>\n

Objec\u00adtive:<\/strong> The inves\u00adti\u00adga\u00adtion and docu\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion of dif\u00adfe\u00adrent socio-demographic and personality-specific fac\u00adtors in regards to preven\u00adta\u00adtive mea\u00adsu\u00adres and con\u00adse\u00adquent spe\u00adci\u00adfic health beha\u00advi\u00adors during the COVID-19<\/span> pan\u00adde\u00admic, based on the Health Belief Model.<\/p>\n

Method:<\/strong> An online sur\u00advey was con\u00adduc\u00adted on N = 3,006 indi\u00advi\u00addu\u00adals living in Ger\u00admany and Aus\u00adtria during the early sta\u00adges of lock\u00addown. The ques\u00adti\u00adon\u00adnaire con\u00adsis\u00adted of a self-administered sec\u00adtion, explo\u00adring the dimen\u00adsi\u00adons posi\u00adted in the Health Belief Model: per\u00adcei\u00adved seve\u00adrity, per\u00adcei\u00adved sus\u00adcep\u00adti\u00adbi\u00adlity, per\u00adcei\u00adved bar\u00adri\u00aders, per\u00adcei\u00adved bene\u00adfits of health-promoting mea\u00adsu\u00adres, and enga\u00adge\u00adment in health-promoting beha\u00advi\u00adors. Addi\u00adtio\u00adnally, the fol\u00adlo\u00adwing stan\u00addar\u00addi\u00adzed sca\u00adles were used to record per\u00adso\u00adna\u00adlity deter\u00admi\u00adnants: the Stress Coping Style Ques\u00adti\u00adon\u00adnaire SVF<\/span> 78 to eva\u00adluate coping and pro\u00adces\u00adsing stra\u00adte\u00adgies in stress\u00adful cir\u00adcum\u00adstan\u00adces, the Posi\u00adtive and Nega\u00adtive Affect Sche\u00addule (PANAS<\/span>) to assess the emo\u00adtio\u00adnal state indu\u00adced by the coro\u00adna\u00advi\u00adrus cri\u00adsis, the UI-18<\/span> scale to dia\u00adgnose the into\u00adlerance of uncer\u00adtainty, and the State-Trait Anxiety Inven\u00adtory (STAI<\/span>) to assess anxiety.<\/p>\n

Results:<\/strong> In line with the Health Belief model, four groups were crea\u00adted based on per\u00adcei\u00adved sus\u00adcep\u00adti\u00adbi\u00adlity and enga\u00adge\u00adment in health-promoting beha\u00advi\u00adors, and con\u00adse\u00adquently stu\u00addied in rela\u00adtion to per\u00adso\u00adna\u00adlity deter\u00admi\u00adnants. Those four groups dif\u00adfe\u00adred signi\u00adfi\u00adcantly in regards to almost all per\u00adso\u00adna\u00adlity dimen\u00adsi\u00adons (p \u2264 0.005). Group 1 (n = 450) shows a redu\u00adced enga\u00adge\u00adment with pro\u00adtec\u00adtive mea\u00adsu\u00adres and dis\u00adplays unde\u00adre\u00adsti\u00adma\u00adtion of the COVID-19-pandemic. Group 2 (n = 984) dis\u00adplays many posi\u00adtive per\u00adso\u00adna\u00adlity varia\u00adbles and high com\u00adp\u00adli\u00adance with pro\u00adtec\u00adtive mea\u00adsu\u00adres. Group 3 (n = 468) per\u00adcei\u00adves the sub\u00adjec\u00adtive risk of disease as high, but high emo\u00adtio\u00adnal dis\u00adcom\u00adfort and stress cau\u00adsed by the pro\u00adtec\u00adtive mea\u00adsu\u00adres leads to the activa\u00adtion of a com\u00adplex fear defense. Group 4 (n = 1,004) is highly anxious and the\u00adre\u00adfore com\u00adp\u00adli\u00adant.<\/p>\n

Con\u00adclu\u00adsi\u00adons:<\/strong> This typi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtion has impli\u00adca\u00adti\u00adons for esta\u00adblis\u00adhing the appro\u00adpriate sup\u00adport sys\u00adtems. This is par\u00adti\u00adcu\u00adlarly important to encou\u00adrage com\u00adp\u00adli\u00adance with preven\u00adtive regu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adons wit\u00adhin the groups, which showed poor abidance for several rea\u00adsons. For Group 1, fur\u00adther edu\u00adca\u00adtion on the rea\u00adli\u00ads\u00adtic threat and effi\u00adci\u00adent pro\u00adtec\u00adtive mea\u00adsu\u00adres is as cen\u00adtral as the fos\u00adte\u00adring of empa\u00adthy for others; with its resource-conscious exem\u00adplary beha\u00advior Group 2 could be used as a posi\u00adtive social role model. Group 3 would bene\u00adfit from pro\u00admo\u00adting self-care, while Group 4 requi\u00adres infor\u00adma\u00adtion on psy\u00adcho\u00adso\u00adcial assis\u00adtance avail\u00ada\u00adbi\u00adlity in order to miti\u00adgate the high stress to which the group mem\u00adbers are sub\u00adjec\u00adted.<\/p>\n
